Brainy Bytes™ offers exciting technology-based STEM/STEAM programs through after-school & home-school classes, summer camps & year-round camps and weekend workshops; as well as private groups and birthday parties.

Rather than offer you the same boxed lesson plans that you can find everywhere else, we take pride in offering unique, one-of-a-kind programs that are designed to be fun, informative and flexible to meet the needs of every child.

Our classes are offered during the regular school year and provide flexible after-school and home-school supplemental education.  Course grades may vary by location.

Adventures In STEAM - Coming Spring 2020

*Online or In-Class Flexibility*

Ages 5-7   Grades k-2

Explore the world of STEAM as we delve into science, technology, engineering, art and math with hands-on projects focused on creativity and ingenuity. From science experiments, coding quests and engineering builds to salty art and Archimedes’ bathtub…we cover it all in this class. The course will end with our very own science fair where each student will showcase their favorite creation.

Jr Circuits

Bring art, music and more to life with circuits and programming. We are very excited about our new class that will help students see how STEM can be a part of every aspect of their lives. Students will work in pairs to design and program circuit based game devices, drum sets, interactive artwork and so much more. Inventors, artists and music lovers will enjoy these weekly challenges as creativity and technology come together.

Jr Media Design

This tablet-based course offers two exciting ways to bring stories to life! First we will learn the importance of structure in storytelling through the creation of comic books using LEGOs and visualizer software. Then we will continue our creative learning as we explore the world of animation by producing and directing our own animated movies. Storytelling was never this much fun! Students will be able to share all their creations with family and friends.

Jr Programming

Introduce your child to technology and simple programming with this exciting tablet-based course. Students will create interactive images, computer games, and story animations.

While they are busy creating and having fun, students will be learning basic programming skills and will take away critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will benefit them long after the course is over.

Jr Engineering

A ONE-OF-A-KIND COURSE offering the best of two worlds… BRICKS and CODE! Introduce your child to STEM and programming with the LEGO WeDo 2.0 system. Using bluetooth technology, we can wirelessly program our bots to complete amazing challenges in engineering and coding. Each week will bring a new adventure in STEM, this is the prefect course to encourage continued learning exploring engineering, simple machines and technology.

Jr Ozobotics

Taking robotics in a whole new direction! Your K-2nd grader will have a blast using Ozobots and tablet-based software to learn the basics of robotics and programming. They will use a combination of technology and art to design and complete fun and innovative challenges each week. Experience creating & learning like never before with Ozobotics!

Lego Storystarter

Storytelling was never this much fun! Utilizing the LEGO® StoryStarter set we will reinforce the basic structures of a well-composed story (making this class a great language arts tool). At the same time we will introduce them to the world of technology as we show them how to illustrate their stories in their very own graphic storybook. They will build their LEGO® story scenes and (using photo capture and editing tools) bring the story to life in print. We will create multiple storybooks in this class and each student will receive a link to printable versions of all their creations to take home.

Exploring Programming With Drones

Why just play with drones when you can program them?! In the air or on the ground, you program and maneuver these drones through weekly challenges. Can you team conquer the maze, program the mission coordinates or win the race? This class focuses on problem solving and collaboration while introducing programming skills.

LEGO Hero Comic Book Design

Now you can create a LEGO comic book in this new and exciting course.  Learn photo capturing and graphic editing skills as you build your LEGO action hero story frame by frame.  Insert out-of-this-world backgrounds and special effects just like a real comic book.  Students will receive a disc at the end of class with all their creations.

Why just play video games when you can learn to code your own?! Using Scratch 3, you will learn how to create your very own games from beginning to end. Learn essential programming terminology and skills as you build multiple games with varying play styles. You must have minimal experience using a computer to take this class. No programming experience required.

Did you like The LEGO Movie? Want to learn how to make your own stop-motion brick film? This class is for you!! Using cameras, animation software, and video editing software, you will bring LEGOs to life creating multi-scene movies with transitions, titles, credits, sound effects, and narration. Students receive a link to all the class creations at the end of the course.

The stories are up to your imagination. With a huge assortment of sets to choose from, this course can be taken again and again with new creations every time!

Lego EV3 Robotics: With The Mindstorm EV3

With a hands-on/minds-on approach, students are encouraged to work in teams of two and brainstorm in order to find creative solutions to weekly challenges. Through a process of selecting, building, testing, and evaluating, they will improve their problem solving skills to accomplish exciting and fun robotic tasks. You will use your new skills to meet project-based challenges such as creating remote controls, smashing barriers and facing off with your opponents in a LEGO® Sumo Battle.

You don’t need any experience with robotics or programming to begin your robotic adventure.

You’ve been playing Minecraft for years, now it is time to take the next step while learning valuable programming tools you can apply anywhere.

Participants must have their own PC Minecraft account login & password. (This is done through MOJANG and does cost an extra fee)

3D Computer Animation

Create your own animated story while you learn basic Java programming concepts. We will teach you how to build your own animated world while introducing basic object-oriented programming terminology and concepts like algorithms, functions, and conditional statements. No previous experience required.

This class is great for anyone interested in art and computer animation. Students receive a link to all the class creations at the end of the course.

Graphic Design

Using GIMP software, you will learn how to put your creativity to use altering and enhancing photos/images, creating your own cards or website logos and so much more. During the semester students will use pictures, fonts, layers, and other customizable tools to experience first-hand the skills needed to master the art and technology of graphic design. Students will be able to take home printable versions of some of their creations to share with family & friends.

Grades 6 & Up

**NEW** World Of Jr Engineering

If your child loves to invent, program, or just see how things work, then this is the camp for them! We will introduce the world of engineering in our everyday lives. From mechanical and civil to environmental and electrical, each day will explore a different field of engineering. Campers will create in robotics, art, programming and more while learning how engineering is a vital part of their world and how they can make a difference.

While they are having fun creating they are also learning valuable language arts skills such as plot, setting and the process of good story writing. Each camper will receive a link to all the book and movie creations made in the camp.

Full Day Camp

Full Day Camp **NEW** Exploring Jr Creation

We have combined two of our favorite programs, Jr Programming and Comic Book Creation, into one amazing camp. Learn early coding skills while programming games, puzzles, interactive scene clips and more with tablet-based, drop-down programming. Use LEGOs and your imagination to create comic books with story visualizer software. Your campers will love exploring and creating in this hands-on/minds-on camp. No prior experience needed.

1/2 Day Camp

Mini-OzoTech

Our 1/2 day Ozo-Tech camp is the Ozobot exploration part of the Exploring Jr. Robotics camp but with shorter days for those that don’t want a full day camp.

Each day is a new adventure theme including Space, Dinosaurs, Shapes-n-Such, Medieval Times and Minecraft. This is a very creative and innovative introduction to programming and robotics with the coolest little robots in town. Ozobotics (as we like to call it) is a combination of creating and coding that can accomplish dozens of imaginative challenges. You will code with color and with programming to play games, challenge other teams in races and battles, along with so much more… all while learning important collaboration and thinking skills.

1/2 Day Camp

Mini-Engineering

Delve deeper into Robotics with the new LEGO® WeDo 2.0 system. Now we can utilize wireless programming to make our bots complete even bigger challenges. Each day is a new adventure theme including Space, Dinosaurs, Shapes-n-Such, Medieval Times and Minecraft.

This can be a great follow-up to Mini-RoboTech or a stand-alone introduction to robotics and programming.  Offering the best of two worlds… BRICKS and CODE… this camp is perfect for the camper that loves building, engineering and technology.

Mini Coder

This action-packed camp is a great introduction into critical thinking and collaboration and is specifically tailored for our younger programmers. Explore the world of programming and creation with kid-friendly, tablet-based software. Play exciting code related activity games that will get you moving and thinking. Your camper will learn fundamental skills for programming that will last a lifetime.

Exploring Jr Robotics

If your young children dream of creating and inventing with robotic systems like LEGOs and Ozobots then this is the camp for them!

JUST FOR SUMMER CAMPERS! Each day is a new adventure theme including Space, Dinosaurs, Shapes-n-Such, Medieval Times and Minecraft. We will use the new LEGO WeDo 2.0 systems to learn exciting and new ways to use Bluetooth technology to build and program machines!  But that is just half the camp…. campers will learn programming and coding with the very tiny and very cool OZOBOTs.

Will your team be up to the challenge of inventing, programming and creating to achieve new tasks and missions every day?

This camp provides an amazing introduction to robotics and programming.  Fun for campers of all ability levels, each day will bring a new adventure in STEM.  Can your team meet the challenge and create a robot to master your assigned task? Each day is a new adventure theme including Pokemon Challenge, Olympian, Race Day, Puzzle Fun, and Super Hero Day.

This camp focuses on collaboration and exploration; encouraging innovative thinking by allowing teams to come up with their own missions in robotics.

Legos...Camera...Action

NEW SOFTWARE = MORE CREATIVITY!

Legos, Camera, Action: Did you like The LEGO Movie? Want to learn how to make your own stop-motion brick film? This class is for you!! Using cameras, animation software, and video editing software along with a NEW addition of green screen technology in the software, you will bring LEGOs to life creating multi-scene movies with transitions, titles, credits, sound effects, and narration. Students receive a link to all the class creations at the end of the course.

The stories are up to your imagination. With a huge assortment of sets to choose from, this course can be taken again and again with new creations every time!

1/2 Day Camp

Intro Game Creation

If you think playing computer games is fun, think what a blast learning to program your own games will be. Your imagination is the limit as you use GameMaker software to create maze, strategy, and a variety of other types of games. You’ll learn about creating sprites, objects, events and actions. Design a room, make it look the way you want, add objects and play your game. We’ll teach you how to display health, lives, score, splash screens and high score tables. Using drag and drop programming, you’ll be creating exciting, professional looking games you can play with your friends. Students receive a link to all the class creations at the end of the course. You must have minimal experience using a computer to take this class.

1/2 Day Camp

Advanced Game Creation

Delve deeper into GameMaker techniques. This class is for those already familiar with GameMaker who want to take their game creation skills to the next level. We will examine gravity, platforms, bosses, levels, effects, scrolling rooms, GML (GameMaker’s built-in programming language) and continue to expand our skills. Students receive a link to all the class creations at the end of the course.

You must have already taken a Game Creation class with us or in some way demonstrate your ability to keep up with this class as basic GameMaker skills will be assumed.

Full Day Camp - Two Levels Offered For Ages 8-11 And 12 & U

Exploring Drones

Take your programming to new heights… LITERALLY!

Learning to code has never been more fun! Using programmable drones, we will teach basic programming skills while taking on exciting, aerodynamic challenges. Races, obstacle courses and daring rescues are just a few of the task you must program your drone to complete. This camp is for those that what to do more than just fly a drone…

Girls Only Creative Story Telling

Girls Only Creative Story Telling: Does your daughter have an interest in STEM? If she’s eager to collaborate with like-minded girls, then this camp was designed just for her! In this camp, we bring LEGO® StoryStarter and Stop Motion Movie Making together for a full week of story creation. Campers will work together to make their very own storybooks and short films. Using Legos, cameras, NEW  green screen technology, story visualizer and animation software the campers will bring their imagination to life. 

While they are having fun bringing their stories to life, they are also learning valuable language arts skills such as plot, setting and the process of good story writing. Each camper will receive a link to all the book and movie creations made in the camp.

We have combined two favorites, Minecraft and Game Making, and offered them in one GIGANTIC camp that introduces Minecraft Mod Design and Video Game Creation! Now you will rule the Minecraft and gaming world with your own mod and game creations.
No programming experience required. At the end of camp, participants will receive a link to all the game creations and the opportunity to continue modding at home.

Campers must have their own PC Minecraft account login & password. (This is done through MOJANG and does cost an extra fee) Laptops not required, but campers may bring their own – Windows 7 or newer, or Mac.

This camp provides an amazing introduction to robotics and programming utilizing LEGO Mindstorm EV3 and Ozobot robotic systems.  Each day is a new adventure theme including Pokemon Challenge, Olympian, Race Day, Puzzle Fun, and Super Hero Day.

Fun for campers of all ability levels, each day will bring a new adventure in STEM.  Battle with other teams in races and competitions that will test your skills with both EV3 or Ozobot. Campers will be introduced to a new way to look at robots and programming.

NEW SOFTWARE = MORE CREATIVITY!

Legos, Camera, Action: Did you like The LEGO Movie? Want to learn how to make your own stop-motion brick film? This class is for you!! Using cameras, animation software, and video editing software along with a NEW addition of green screen technology in the software, you will bring LEGOs to life creating multi-scene movies with transitions, titles, credits, sound effects, and narration. Students receive a link to all the class creations at the end of the course.

The stories are up to your imagination. With a huge assortment of sets to choose from, this course can be taken again and again with new creations every time!

Intro Game Creation

If you think playing computer games is fun, think what a blast learning to program your own games will be. Your imagination is the limit as you use GameMaker software to create maze, strategy, and a variety of other types of games. You’ll learn about creating sprites, objects, events and actions. Design a room, make it look the way you want, add objects and play your game. We’ll teach you how to display health, lives, score, splash screens and high score tables. Using drag and drop programming, you’ll be creating exciting, professional looking games you can play with your friends. Students receive a link to all the class creations at the end of the course. You must have minimal experience using a computer to take this class.

Advanced Game Creation

Delve deeper into GameMaker techniques. This class is for those already familiar with GameMaker who want to take their game creation skills to the next level. We will examine gravity, platforms, bosses, levels, effects, scrolling rooms, GML (GameMaker’s built-in programming language) and continue to expand our skills. Students receive a link to all the class creations at the end of the course.

You must have already taken a Game Creation class with us or in some way demonstrate your ability to keep up with this class as basic GameMaker skills will be assumed.

Tired of the 2D world? Join us for a week of 3D creativity. We will explore the worlds of 3D animation and 3D graphics and printing. Learn how to create and animate your world with Alice 3.0 software. These skills can be used to make movies, games and more. Using SketchUp and 3D printing software, we will create our own objects and then bring them to reality. Find out the steps it takes to get your creation out of the computer and into your hands! Campers must have excellent computer skills. Campers will receive 3D printed creations and a link to their animations.

(6-8 age group will use the LEGO Wedo robotic system, 9+ will use the LEGO EV3 Mindstorm.)
